The Material Girls collaborative exhibition moves on, starting today until 10th January:

Also today, received the dates for the Rochford Art Trail next year!  I intend to work towards it, but its a while off yet, and is subject to submission and acceptance.

there will likely be special events during the Trail too.  The Trail has also won awards:

The Art Trail was named the winner in the ‘Culture and Environment’ category for the East of England before going on to take the overall prize for the East of England.

Judges of the Towns Alive Awards said:

“The Rochford Arts Trail combines artists’ creativity with a level-headed approach to marketing a town and measuring the benefits. 
Importantly too, this annual event keeps growing and adding new twists so that visitors come back for more.”

 







Textiles on the Hill 26th/27th May2012

As the time gets nearer to the weekend event of the Material Girls - Textiles on the Hill, at Horndon-on-the-Hill, Essex, its time to publish the Schedule of Demonstrations.  Hopefully you will recognise some of the names as being well known in their field of expertise.  So take a note of who and when, and do come along to see us.

I'm prepping for my contribution - its on basic bookbinding techniques - I hope some of you will feel able to be there for when the doors open, as I am very first up for the weekend, and I hope to do justice to things and get us off to a good start.  So please make a note in your diary, and don't forget there is the Bridging Waters Exhibition to look at, as well as supplies via Denise Gannon of Craft Arena, and Textile Art for sale from locally based Artists, and not forgetting, tea and cake!!

Sometimes you turn around and its all happening.  Paperwork flodding in, well if 2/3 things can constitute a flood!!
I've been accepted into the Burnham Art Trail again - very pleased with that.  The website is in preparation of updating for this year's Trail so do keep checking.  I am back at a venue I've had before - Burnham Osteopathic Clinic which is on Station Road.
Next came the application forms and information for Rochford Art Trail.... got a little while to go before submitting for that, but as we know time soon evaporates.

The Material Girls and our next event: Textiles on the Hill.    The Material Girls are organising and hosting this weekend event.  It promises to have lots to enjoy.  An opportunity to see the international collaboration between Articulation and The Material Girls  with our joint exhibition: Articulated Materials - Bridging Waters.  Alongside that we have invited guest textile artists to demonstrate their skills, will offer artwork for sale, textile art supplies from Craft Arena... and if that's not enough there will be tea/coffee and cake!!!
Yesterday was our meeting day, lots to discuss, but this event is now taking shape.  I am going to do a demonstration for the event - first up - 11am/12noon on Saturday 26th May - I will be showing bookbinding techniques.
And if that isn't enough to discuss - we also got the project brief for 2014, big gulp!!!  Talk about head spin.  However, this is how I've found textile life to be - madness with everything pouring in all at once, followed by quiet periods when you can get down to doing.  This is why my best friends are now highlighter pens and post-it notes!!
So today its fill in the diary... and work my way through some paper tasks, good job at the weekend I managed to find space on my table!

Exhibition NOW ON!!!

Last night was the Private View, on an unusually warm February evening.  Lots of support from visitors who seemed to enjoy the display.
Go to The Material Girls blog where you can see a snapshot detail of the Thames Barges made by the group (not myself as I joined after this project was completed).   If you don't know... the Thames Barge is a style sail boat, particular to the area.
The Exhibition is OPEN TOMORROW MORNING - I will be there stewarding, alongside Chris and Margaret so do come along and say hello.

Moving Onwards

Let's start off with some colour...

This is the pom pom yarn which I made up using Tunisian Crochet.  Its wonderfully squishy (very technical textile term) and hugable, so I think it might end up as a squishy cushion.  Definitely not being offered to the cat to raise his whiskers at.
Yesterday was the Material Girls last meeting before our Exhibition opens next week.  Such a full on session with lots to settle.  But it was wonderful for me to see so many beautiful things coming out of bags and boxes - there were a few big gulps on my part.  Also saw the work from Canada for the first time.  For two groups across the world from each other, working on their own "Bridging Waters" project its uncanny how things will tie in with each other.   I'm sure the whole Exhibition is going to look splendid.  I'm still not showing you my pieces, as I believe visitors to the Exhibition should have first dibs, but once its under way....  Suffice to say that I've completed my tasks, which I'm pleased about.... that is all except making a few pieces for shop sales - which I believe is only going to be at the pv.  Actually I'm not good at card making, in the sense that these little pieces of art usually cause me the most anxiety, I can get so worked up over them, value for money, but not looking cheap, enough work in them but not taking so long that materials and effort far outweigh return.   After all, to be blunt and real, it is supposed to be a money making enterprise. Give me a panel to make any day!!!
I came home and finalised an Art Trail application.... hope its OK, so many different things in my head at the moment I always get hyper worried I've missed a vital  task.  But I am getting the hang of "in 35 words or less...."    So now its wait.
I know its mid Feb, but I think its time to start with this:

A new sketchbook.  The old one isn't quite complete, but I'll cut out the blank pages, to use as pockets for things in this one, but I feel the need for a new start.  I realised after submitting the art trail application, part of my, did you remember, have you done... was simply because I'd not written it out in my sketchbook and ticked it off as I'd done it.  Oh dear, really am an old bag, need lists now, and bright post-its - but there's nothing quite so satisfying a a nice big tick to say its done!!!
